From Gaston and Julia

From Julia in Lille to the Van de Vyvere "chez Me Loontyens" in Gand

Lille, France is north of Paris and very close to the Belgium border. A quick Google Map search shows that all of these buildings are still standing. Except for The  Grand Hôtel Bellevue, these buildings  are now different businesses (shown below). Grand Place - Les Grands Cafes now include: Cafés Méo -  https://www.meo.fr/ Sephora -  Furet du Nord ( a bookstore) -  https://www.furet.com/blog/nos-magasins/furet-du-nord-de-lille/ BNP   Paribas (a bank) -  https://group.bnpparibas/en/ The  Grand Hôtel Bellevue -  https://www.grandhotelbellevue.com/en/ Julia mails this card to Jean Van de Vyvere, at Madam Loontjens home. Geneanet suggests that Maria Kamiel Loontjens is Jean's mother. Madame Loontjens lived at 19, Place du Marais in Gand (Ghent). This is one of four postcards to Jean sent between 1919 and 1934. Two of these cards are also from Gaston.

From Gaston and Julia in 1934 from Westminster Abbey in London

There are four postcards from Julia and two from "Gaston et Julia". This, and the other from Gaston and Julia were mailed in 1934. The handwriting is the same. One other postcard is only from Julia and there is no date. Another postcard from only Julia was sent in 1919 from Paris. The then 20 year-old Eiffel Tower is featured prominently. Evidence suggests there is more than one Julia in the collection.

Yette at Le Casino: Mondorf-les-Bains, Luxembourg

Mondorf is a spa location in south-east Luxembourg and some reports suggest the only gambling location in Luxembourg with " Casino 2000 ".  The current day " parc-termal " spa looks relaxing.  What ever Yette did so long ago, her exclamation, "Superb excursion!", suggests that she enjoyed herself.

Yette in Barcelona at Parc Cascada

Postcard of the Cascada Monument at Ciutadella Park in Barcelona, Spain from Yette.

Moulin De Bicherel - Hall Breton Tel: 30 Pontchartrain 1931

A Google Maps search for "Moulin de Bicherel" shows a point at 78690 Saint -Rémy-l'Honoré. Wikipedia suggests that this location was a mill that ceased activity in 1900, but was made into an inn that was popular "between the wars" and linked to fashion designer Paul Poiret.  Written on July 14, the French National Holiday, t his postcard, written in July 14, 1931 was sent to the Jean Van de Vyvere, from Uncle F___" (Thanks to volunteer KR for this information).
